  Biography: Dr. Thomn Bell

  Dr. Thomn Bell is an educator, researcher, critical practitioner, and self-described systemic agitator who has dedicated his career to disrupting oppressive practices and enhancing the broader educational project. With over 20 years of professional experience, Thomn’s expertise is rooted in both administrative leadership and the classroom. He currently serves as both the Director of Community, Culture, and Belonging and as a lecturer at the Michigan Ross School of Business.
  
  Thomn’s research focuses on the "miseducation" of white pre-service teachers, utilizing Critical Race Theory and portraiture to challenge the color-evasive frameworks that often dominate teacher preparation and education systems at large. He earned his Ph.D. in Education and Human Resources from Colorado State University, where he specialized in the interrogation of whiteness within educational structures. A sought-after consultant and keynote speaker, Dr. Bell has partnered with numerous organizations to foster equity-driven practices.
  
  Most importantly, Thomn has shared his life with his partner for over 20 years and is the proud father of three amazing children. He often shares that his kids are the heartbeat of his work; he does what he does because their futures, and the futures of all children depend on our ability to build a more equitable and just world.

  Biography: Yolanda Spidell
  Yolanda Brown-Spidell is a mom, educator, sociologist, parent advocate and the Executive Director of Eaglets Educational Consulting Firm, LLC. She has been an educator for over 20 years. She completed her undergraduate studies at Eastern Michigan University in psychology, holds a Master’s degree from National University in human behavioral psychology and is currently pursuing her doctorate in Education. She is a training and development specialist at the University of Michigan, sociology professor at Schoolcraft College, a certificated state of Michigan K-12 administrator, a Certified Trauma and Resilience Trainer (CTRT), and a Michigan ACE Community Champion Presenter (MACC). Her passion is to be impactful in the lives of everyone she encounters! Her areas of coaching/consulting include: developing cultures of belonging in educational institutions, supporting people in creating and maintaining authentic relationships, trauma, resilience and work/life balance.

  This year’s conference theme, “Celebrate the Climb,” invites us to pause and recognize the effort, perseverance, and small victories that shape our personal and professional journeys in financial aid. Together, we’ll reflect, recharge, and continue moving upward—stronger as a community.

  We are excited to kick off the conference with inspiring opening messages from Ms. Alicia Keaton and Dr. Jonathan Glenn, setting the tone for a meaningful and energizing experience.

  Attendees can also look forward to in-person participation from NASFAA representative Dr. Angela Johnson, along with updates and shared expertise from our valued partners at MASFAA, MCAN, and the SOM.
