The Early Awareness and Multicultural Opportunities (EAMO) Committee will conduct a series of financial aid workshops, Foster Forward for students who have experienced foster care, as well as caregivers. The workshops will be conducted in partnership with Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) staff. Foster Forward focuses on college financing and college success strategies. One grand prize scholarship will be awarded as well as multiple scholarships in smaller amounts. Scholarships will be awarded based on an essay; the topic will be announced at the Foster Forward kick-off on Thursday, February 22. Additional Foster Forward dates and locations will be forthcoming.
Foster Forward Workshop 1:
EAMO is requesting support from the MSFAA community in the form of both volunteers and donations.
Donations. EAMO would like to offer tchotchkes and swag from Michigan colleges. The participants are youth in foster care, so any donations will be both needed and appreciated. Donations can be sent to Ingrid Clover, EAMO co-chair, at 430 West Allegan, Lansing MI 48922.
Volunteers and plus-one. EAMO would like volunteers to attend the spring 2018 workshops (additional times and dates will be forthcoming). EAMO would also encourage volunteers to bring a plus-one, a staff member from a campus student support organization to talk about their student support organization as well as other students supports on-campus.
